UNDERSTANDING OUR FEMALE HORMONES
Simply put, hormones are chemical substances that are used to control internal activities in our bodies, such as sexual development. When it comes to women, our female sex hormones consist of estrogen and progesterone.
Although these hormones occur in both genders, women experience much higher levels in their bodies. In fact, this creates the building blocks of what differentiates women from men. For instance, estrogen can be broken up into three branches of hormones, including:
Estrogen promotes vaginal blood flow, thickens the uterus wall for menstruation, provides natural lubrication, and encourages breast tissue growth. Meanwhile, progesterone tends to heighten during a woman’s pregnancy and is used by our body to prepare the uterus for a fertilized egg.
Produced mainly in the ovaries and adrenal gland, both estrogen and progesterone influence muscle growth, bone structure, metabolism, and hair growth.
Interestingly enough, women also have low levels of testosterone. This hormone is used to stimulate sex drive and promote menstrual health. Similarly, men also have traces of estrogen and progesterone in their bodies. All of these sex hormones help keep us healthy throughout our lives.
So, what happens to our sex hormones as we age?
OUR HORMONE LEVELS FLUCTUATE OVER TIME
All throughout our lives as women, we will notice fluctuations in our hormones. During our teen years, we will undergo several changes in our bodies that will transform us from young girls to mature women. In our 20s, our sex hormones tend to be at their highest.
PERIMENOPAUSE AND MENOPAUSE
However, as we age, our bodies undergo drastic changes as our hormones reach their peak and begin to drop off. Women experience a more marked change when their periods no longer occur, an aging process known as menopause. As early as our 30s, some women will begin to feel the hormonal shift into perimenopause and menopause.
By our 50s, most women will have undergone menopause and will cease to have a menstrual cycle. Along with menopause, some women may even experience huge hormonal fluctuations as a result of having a child or due to chronic health issues like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).
FEMALE HORMONE IMBALANCE SYMPTOMS
Although these fluctuations are natural, they can cause some serious female hormone imbalances and result in many unwanted side effects such as:
Weight gain
Low libido
Sleepless nights
Pain during sex
Acne
Hot flashes
Mood changes
Memory loss
Low energy and fatigue
Since all of our bodies respond differently to changes, these symptoms vary in severity from woman to woman. In fact, while some women may experience horrible hot flashes, lack of sleep, and mood changes during menopause, others might only gain a little bit of weight.
WHAT CAUSES FEMALE HORMONE IMBALANCES?
All of our hormones work together to achieve one common goal: balance. However, several factors can cause our hormones to change, including:
Stress
Pregnancy
Aging (menopause)
Genetics
Underlying health issues
This, in turn, results in a hormone imbalance. When we experience a hormone deficiency of a specific hormone, it may alter our energy, hunger, sleep patterns, mood, and even sexual performance.
Along with menopause, there are two main causes of hormone imbalances in women: adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism. Keep reading to learn more.
ADRENAL FATIGUE
Located on top of our kidneys, our adrenals are pyramid-shaped glands that produce about 20% of our reproductive hormones. Along with sex hormone production, the adrenals also create the primary stress hormone called cortisol.
When we experience drastic life changes, our adrenal glands will secrete cortisol to help our bodies manage the stress. In moderation, this is a normal and healthy response. However, excessive amounts of the hormone can cause adrenal fatigue.
Adrenal fatigue, also known as adrenal dysfunction, causes a reverse in the cortisol curve. Unfortunately, the side effects of adrenal fatigue include intense sluggishness, lack of sleep at night, lowered sex drive, slow down of metabolism, and a negatively impacted immune system. In extreme cases, it can even lead to adrenal failure.
HYPOTHYROIDISM
The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of the neck. This small gland is responsible for our entire body’s metabolic function. It also produces special hormones that regulate:
Body temperature
Levels of hydration
Hair and nail growth
Often times, the traditional testing performed by our primary care and sometimes even endocrinologists will not be able to identify or treat a sluggish thyroid, known as hypothyroidism. Unfortunately, hypothyroidism can cause hormonal imbalances that result in hot flashes, muscle weakness, dehydration, and weight gain.
So, is there a way to help balance our hormones and minimize the negative symptoms of menopause, adrenal fatigue, and hypothyroidism?
AGEREJUVENATION HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY
Here’s the good news: female hormone imbalances are easily treatable. Hormone imbalance solutions like Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) are a great way to balance hormones like estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and more. At AgeRejuvenation, we offer a natural Hormone Replacement Therapy treatment called Pellet Therapy.
WHAT IS PELLET THERAPY?
Pellet therapy is the process of re-establishing hormones that have been lost in your body and reduce the negative symptoms of hormone imbalances.
At AgeRejuvenation, our practitioners use a natural pellet hormone therapy also known as Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). Bio-identical hormones are derived from natural sources, such as a yams or roots, that best mimic the molecular structure of the hormones we naturally create. This way, our body can readily identify the hormones and levels are restored within the body.
The treatment is called pellet therapy because it comes in the form of tiny pellets that are placed under the skin, which allows the body to absorb trace amounts of vital hormones for 3-4 months at a time.
IS PELLET THERAPY SAFE?
Not only is pellet therapy safe, but it is also completely natural. Pellets are bio-identical and are derived from natural plant materials. Therefore, more readily able to be absorbed by the body.
Furthermore, all of our doctors specialize in anti-aging medicine, and provide appropriate number of pellets and quality procedures. Ask your AgeRejuvenation medical specialist if pellet therapy is right for you.
HOW DOES PELLET THERAPY WORK?
Pellet therapy works to reduce the risk of health issues like adrenal fatigue, balance hormone levels, increase metabolism, and live an overall healthier life.
When you come in for your pellet therapy treatment, an AgeRejuvenation medical professional will first take a sample of your blood to determine your current hormone levels which is then interpreted by our medical providers. At AgeRejuvenation, our treatment is also personalized to each individual and analyzes the following factors:
Hormone levels
Adrenals
Thyroid
Nutrition
Performance
Medical history
Once we determine the perfect amount of hormone pellets for your body’s needs, we use lidocaine to numb the incision site and then carefully place the pellet in your body. Pellets are very small and are about the size of a grain of rice. For men, the pellet is placed in the flank or glute, under the fat.
Since pellets are bio-identical, they mimic the natural molecular structure of the hormones you have naturally occurring in the body, such as testosterone and estradiol. Depending on the hormone levels your body needs, this treatment will steadily release hormones for a 5 to 6-month period.
Once the pellets are inserted into your body, steri-strips are applied to close the site. We recommend you leave the bandage on for 5-6 days or until it falls off on its own.
THE AGEREJUVENATION DIFFERENCE
When it comes to pellet therapy, it is important that your doctors have experience with the procedure as well as prescribing pellet dosages.
BHRT SPECIALIZED DOCTORS
Unfortunately, too many doctors simply prescribe dosages based on your age and weight. These factors don’t offer nearly enough information to understand what your body actually needs. Our board certified doctors will make sure that the hormones administered are exactly the right amount for your optimal health based on your complete body composition and blood work.
Additionally, our doctors have a great deal of experience in pellet administration, so you don’t have to worry about pellets falling out or being ineffective as long as you take the precautions outlined by our staff.
EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE
All of our staff, from our intake advisors to our doctors, have one goal in mind: your optimal health. When it comes to your health, don’t settle for less: experience the AgeRejuvenation difference.
